LEADER'S INVESTITURE/REDEDICATIONS (2)

  Investiture or Redication
This can be used at a meeting to invest, or rededicate new leaders.

The service unit manager or troop adult should lead the new adult members in saying the following pledge:

We, the leaders of (Level) Troop/Group (Number), members of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, united by our acceptance of the Girl Scout Promise and Law

And inspired by the vision of the founder of the Girl Scout Movement in the United States, Juliette Gordon Low;

Do dedicate ourselves to the purpose of inspiring girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism, and service, that they may become happy and resourceful citizen.

(If you are doing this at the SU level change the first sentence to read, "We, the leaders of [Service Unit],)"

After doing the investiture/rededication at the SU level you can read the following poem:

There are eyes upon you and they're watching night and day;

There are ears that quickly take in every word you say;

There are hands all eager to do anything you do;

And a girl who's dreaming of the day she'll be like you.

You're the girl's idol. You're the wisest of the wise;

In her mind, about you, no suspicions ever rise;

She believes in you devoutly, holds that all you say and do,

she'll say and do, in you way, when she's a grown-up like you.

There's a wide-eyed girl who believes you're always right.

And her ears are always open; and she watches day and night.

Your are setting an example every day in all you do,

for a girl who's waiting to grow up to be just like you.

I am a Girl Scout

LEADER: Girl Scouting is strengthened by our love and dedication to our Girl Scout code of living--the Promise and the Law. They are the cornerstones upon which we have built a program that will develop each one of us to assume the responsibilities and accept the privileges of citizenship, and to develop a set of true values. Let's join together to say our Promise. (make Girl Scout sign)

ALL: On my honor, I will try to serve God and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

LEADER: We will repeat the Girl Scout Law.

ALL: I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

#1 GS: I will do my best to be honest and fair.
I am a Girl Scout.
You can trust me with your innermost thoughts and I will tell you the truth.
I will show no favoritism to those with whom I associate.

#2 GS: I will do my best to be friendly and helpful.
I am a Girl Scout.
It is my desire to act kindly to those around me.
I will search for thoughtful things to do, not just for the praise I might receive.

#3 GS: I will do my best to be considerate and caring.
I am a Girl Scout.
I will be courteous and share what I have whether it's something I can make, a thoughtful word, or an understanding heart.

#4 GS: I will do my best to be courageous and strong.
I am a Girl Scout.
I will use my inner strength to follow my values even when they are not what others want me to do.
I will try new things and learn to enjoy new experiences.

#5 GS: I will be responsible for what I say and do.
I am a Girl Scout.
I will follow through on what I promise.
I will be accountable for myself and accept blame if I have done wrong.

#6 GS: I will do my best to respect myself and others.
I am a Girl Scout.
I will direct my thoughts to worthwhile things, so I may be a positive influence on those around me.
I will respect people regardless of the color of their skin, their beliefs or abilities.

#7 GS: I will do my best to respect authority.
I am a Girl Scout.
I will respect the laws of my community and the requests of those who are responsible for me.
I will respect authority to set an example for others to follow.

#8 GS: I will do my best to use resources wisely.
I am a Girl Scout.
I will not misuse material, time or energy.
I will use resources wisely so I may have more to share with others and assist our
supplies to outlast time.

#9 GS: I will do my best to make the world a better place.
I am a Girl Scout.
I will care for all living things.
I will take an active interest in caring for my environment.

#10 GS: I will do my best to be a sister to every Girl Scout
I am a Girl Scout.
I will extend a helping hand to those around me in our sisterhood. I will not think in terms of color, race, or creed, but of the common bond shared by Girl Scouts.

(Conclude ceremony with an appropriate song.)
